Martha Smith Bertisch
Martha Smith Bertisch, 86, of Toms River, formerly of Bergenfield, died Aug. 4.
She was a graduate of Hunter College and a teacher in the Bergenfield Public Schools. Martha was a member of Temple Emeth, Women's B'nai Brith, National Council of Jewish Women and served with the Literacy Volunteers of America in Ocean County.
Beloved wife of the late George. Loving daughter of the late Samuel and Rebecca. Devoted mother of Jan of Brooklyn Heights, N.Y., Charles of Albuquerque, and Richard of Red Bank. Cherished grandmother of Sarah Nicole. Dear sister of Ida Garbut and the late Rose Schwartz, Gertrude Smith and Harry Smith.

Leroy Buggs
Leroy Buggs, 88, of Hackensack, formerly of Garfield, died Aug. 4.
Buggs was employed by Curtiss-Wright Corp. as an executive chauffeur for the president and CEO of the company. He served in the U.S. Navy where he served in WWII. He was a member of Imani Baptist Church of Christ of East Orange Inc., where he was one of the founding members. He also served on the trustee board, usher board and various other organizations.
Beloved husband of Geneva (Kearney) Buggs; the father of Gerald L. (Linda) Buggs, Yvonne (Earl) Colclough and Lorraine Buggs; the grandfather of Idreaner (Alterque) Cook, Tiwanda D. Buggs, Nichole (Joseph) Bowers, Brielle and Brittany Buggs; the great-grandfather of 10. He is also survived by a host of brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, friends and neighbors.

Patrick J. O'Leary
Patrick J. O'Leary, 79, of Wayne, formerly of Hackensack, died Monday, Aug. 4.
He was born in New York City and raised in the Bronx having lived in Hackensack before moving to Wayne 10 years ago. He was a research chemist for Lever Brothers for 35 years before his retirement in 1995. Pat was a parishioner of Holy Trinity Church, Hackensack, and more recently a parishioner of Our Lady of the Valley R.C. Church, Wayne.
He was the beloved husband of Anne (Ellicott) O'Leary; loving father of Jean Brunelle and her husband Michael of Charlton, MA, Kevin O'Leary and his wife Rima of Wayne, Maureen Russo and her husband Pat of Rochelle Park, and the late Mary-Eileen O'Leary; cherished grandfather of Gregory and Dan Brunelle, Kasey O'Leary and Melissa Russo; loved brother of Kay Misiak of Queens, NY, Josephine Simpson of OK and the late Mary Stricklin.

Mary C. Bishop
Mary C. (nee Rossi) Bishop, 87, of Hackensack, died on Monday, Aug. 4.
Before retiring in 1975, she was a lab technician for Hackensack University Medical Center for 25 years. In 1989, Mary was the recipient of the Jubilee Medal for Meritorious Service in the Archdiocese of Newark, which is a very rare and special honor, she was a member of the Trinity Columbiettes, a member of the Trinity Rosary Society and Trinity Leisure Club and a Parishioner of Holy Trinity R.C. Church in Hackensack.
Beloved wife of the late John A. Bishop (1986), a former Hackensack fire chief. Dearest sister of the late Joseph Rossi Sr. and John Rossi. Mary is also survived by several nieces and nephews and dearest friend of Frances Koster.

Constance J. "Connie" (nee Laczynski) Dudek, 75, of Maywood, died Saturday, Aug. 9.
She was a parishioner of Our Lady Queen of Peace in Maywood and worked for Gilda's Club in Hackensack. She also donated her time knitting caps for preemie babies in local hospitals. She was an administrator for Lydecker Manor in Maywood.
Beloved wife of 55 years of Raymond W. Sr. Devoted mother of Raymond W. Jr., John E., Susan Grimm and her husband Brian, and Alison Kahrig and her husband Bill. Daniel J. Esola, 76, of Hackensack, died on Tuesday, Aug. 5.
He was veteran of the United States Marine Core, a lifetime member of the American Legion in Saddle Brook, an associate member of the VFW post #3484 of Saddle Brook, a member of Roofers Local #10 of Haledon and a parishioner of St. Francis R.C. Church in Hackensack.
Devoted son of the late Antonio M. Esola Sr. and Elvira (nee Zatola). Cherished brother of Julia Mejia of Lodi, George Esola of Teaneck, Harold Esola of Hillsdale, Robert Esola of Sparta, Carol Santiago of Lodi and the late Antonio M. Esola Jr., John Esola, Antoinette Brown, Marie Kiel and Andrew Esola. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Virgil Ernest Thompson
Virgil Ernest Thompson, 65, of Hackensack, died Thursday, Aug. 7.
He was born July 10, 1943, in East Millinocket, Maine, to the late Melvin and Sarah (Powers) Thompson. Virgil spent 31 years working for the Bergen County Parks and Recreation Department. He enjoyed working outside and had many funny stories to tell. One of Virgil's greatest accomplishments was learning he had Dyslexia and joining the Literacy Volunteers of America at Bergen County Community College, where he learned to read and write. He then volunteered as an aid in the support group "New Vision."
Beloved husband of 26 years of Amanda. Loving and devoted father of Sarah, Louella and Wendy Thompson all of NY and the late Tammy Thompson. Cherished grandfather of Cheryl Sheehan. Dear brother of Carl Thompson, Arnold Thompson and his wife, Donna, Geneva Michaud, Dorothy Doane, Robena Dugans and her husband, Hugh and Joann Hunt and her husband, Vernon all of Maine, Basil Thompson of Florida, Alton Thompson and his wife, Sharon of Indiana, Joseph Thompson and his wife, Debbie of Illinois, Evelyn Wright and her husband, Donald of Massachusetts. Wilma J. Supik, 83, of Little Ferry, died Sunday, Aug. 11.
She was a graduate of New York University and worked as a columnist and religion editor for the Bergen Record in Hackensack. She was also a volunteer in the pastoral care department at Hackensack University Medical Center for 23 years and a member of St. Margaret of Cortona in Little Ferry.
Dear sister of John Supik and Elaine Krejsa. Loving aunt to Donna and Anthony Iorio, Ellen and Eric Neumann, Joseph and Kathy Krejsa, Bill and Rosemarie Supik, and Mary and Rich Neumann. Great-aunt to Sarah and Allison Iorio; Eric, Matthew and Emily Neumann; Jessica and John Krejsa; John and Mark Supik; Katie, Richard and Peter Neumann.

He was an Army veteran of World War II, after serving his country, he worked in the construction industry with R.A. Hamilton. He was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local # 825 in Spring Field, NJ. He was a parishioner of Holy Trinity R.C. Church in Hackensack.
Beloved husband of Julianna (nee Welfel). Devoted son of the late Gaetano and Rosalia (nee Zisa) Di Martino. Loving father of Karen Bonica of Toms River, Gail Costa of Versailles, Kent., and Carmen J. Di Martino of South Hackensack. Cherished grandfather of Lauren Sylvester, Michael Bonica, Renee Gage, David Costa, Lindsey and Brandon Di Martino, great-grandfather of Brady and Mac Gage. Cherished brother of Jay Posnanski, Adeline Cavalierie and the late Richard, Joseph and Paul Di Martino. Carmen is also survived by two sister-in-laws, Irene and Ann Di Martino.
