| Little Ferry/South Hackensack Little League hosted the 11- and 12-year old softball tournament. |
The Little League State Championship games were on the mind of many 11 and 12 year old girls last weekend. For the first time, Charles Mastik Field on Indian Lake Road in Little Ferry was the center of the tournaments that were hosted by the Little Ferry/South Hackensack Little League.
"Little Ferry/South Hackensack did a great job and it really turned out nice," said Councilwoman Sue Schuck.
Each team participating in the state championships did something for all the players. Little Ferry/South Hackensack had a free picnic BBQ for all that attended. The league also handed out to each player on all four teams a knapsack. According to Schuck, one team brought four boxes of peaches the size of softballs.
The games started on Friday and ended Monday. The following towns competed for the title, Little Ferry/South Hackensack, Robbinsville, Hanover and Harrison Township.
On Monday, Robbinsville took on Hanover and won the title 3-1 and will represent the state at the regional finals in Albany.
Although Little Ferry/South Hackensack did not make it as far as they wanted, the players competed at their best.
