Gas prices and summer vacation
Reassessing summer travel plans
It is getting harder and harder to remember gas prices consistently less than four dollars a gallon, never mind three or two. A walk around town revealed that rather than go on vacation, some people in Hackensack may just stay home. Or walk.

"Actually, I prefer travelling by bus rather than by car. I used to rent a car, but now I don’t. The gas prices are just too high."

"I don’t tend to go away very much in the summer, because I can’t get away in the summer. But I would do day trips. Sometimes, I would just go out for a drive. I am certainly not doing that now. We’ve already started to see a big swing to smaller, more energy-efficient cars. I’ve very grateful that I have a little Japanese car that gets great gas mileage. But I would actually take the train here from where I live if there were decent connections."

"I go to school in Washington, D.C., and when I recently went down to visit friends, it was easier to fly than drive because of gas prices. I get student discounts when I fly or take the train, but you don’t get student discounts for gas. I have an SUV, so gas is even more expensive. It might not have been as cheap to fly, but it was pretty close. That’s scary."

"Gas prices are not affecting my summer vacation plans because I don’t pay for my own gas. My dad does. That’s the benefit of living at home and going to college, I guess."

"Gas prices are way too high right now. A lot of people have to take a second job just to afford a full tank of gas. Gas runs out in no time, so there isn’t a lot of room for going on vacation. They should find a way to lower gas prices. A lot of people are not well off and don’t have a life like 50 Cent or Hulk Hogan where they can afford these astronomical prices."
